I started my educational career in 2000 as a Chemistry and Biology teacher. Within my first year, our school was visited by a salesperson looking to set up a 403(b) for me and my colleagues. Knowing that I needed to "invest", I signed up and started contributing. Unfortunately, as a young teacher, I was convinced to enroll in a high fee company that severely impacted my returns.
When I transitioned into building administration, I was advised to start a ROTH IRA, which I did with my family's financial planner. I stopped contributing to my 403(b) and focused all of my contributions towards my ROTH for the next 15 years.
When I made the move to a central office administration position, I became more and more interested in my finances and started researching my own retirement. This has lead me to dive into the wild world of K-12 educational finances and realize how the industry works, and FINALLY was able to move my original 403(b) investments to a low cost vendor!
I have made it my goal to help educate teachers on their unique financial options so they can make decisions that are best for their personal situations. I want to ensure that those in the K-12 educational system maximize their investments to reach their retirement goals!
